A Fist Full of 2022

2021 is in the rearview mirror and now it’s time to sally forth and conquer new challenges. With a new sense of optimism and the constant weight of imposter syndrome, I’m ready to list out the goals I have for FFOS this year.

Serving the VR Community

My favorite saying for 2022 is “2022, it’s not about you”. It’s a call of action to go outside of yourself and serve those around you. So I’m going to try and run with that this year and see where it takes me. I’ve fallen in love with VR development and want to dive deep and learn as much as possible. Why not take that passion and help those in the same community who are trying to do the same as me?

Video and Written Tutorials

I’ve already knocked out my first one this year, but I want to do more. People seemed to enjoy it enough and no one has called me an idiot yet, so I must be doing something right.

The goal here is to do one a week. I want to get the process to be a bit quicker so it doesn’t take an entire week to produce something. I don’t know how realistic this is, but I’ve mostly gotten over being shy on microphone (which was no easy task).

Putting Myself Out More

Not only am I shy about putting my voice out on video, but advertising it is painful for me too. I’m constantly bombarded with thoughts of the content not being good enough to advertise or post about, but with the mantra of “2022, it’s not about you”, I can burry these feelings of doubt. It isn’t about me at all. It’s about helping others learn the things that I’m also interested in. My ego can take a back seat because I might actually be able to help someone… and hopefully that someone will become a bitcoin billionaire and buy me a house. Honestly, I don’t think I’ll ever be able to afford a house without this outcome happening.

More Game Jams

These helped me grow a ton in 2021. Plus now I have a portfolio of games I’ve made (and like… two I’m proud of).

This year I want to focus on game jams with a VR focus. My last two game jam projects I developed for VR, but since the jam itself wasn’t VR focused, I didn’t receive much feedback. I still learned tons and grew as a developer, but some feedback would have been nice too.

One Major Game Project

I’m tacking this one at the very end of this post because that’s the mental space I want it to take right now. Everything comes before this last goal of 2022. While I’m doing game jams and tutorials, I’m certain that some unique idea will spark interest for me and that’s when I’ll set out on this goal. Before then, I still have a ton to learn and don’t want to get distracted by this idea that doesn’t even exist yet.

2022, it's not about you

So there it is. This year will be focused on serving the community I want to join and try my best to not let my imposter syndrome hold me back. Eat my ass imposter syndrome!
